The Mayor of London continues its war on 4 4 × and urban SUV.
Indeed; Ken Livingstone announced on February 12 its intention to increase a 25 pounds (about 33 euros) the amount of urban toll for sports cars (SUV) and motocross (4 4 ×) circulating in London.
This tax is not new since last February 2003, drivers must pay $ 8 pounds (about 11 euros) each time they enter the center of the English capital. This measure was lower by about 70 000 the number of vehicles traveling in the center.
30 000 vehicles would be concerned by this new measure, which should be implemented in October.
If this tax is, according to figures beneficial to the decongestion of urban center, however it may seem discriminatory: the height of this tax is and will be more very important (but people traveling in SUV apparently can afford it) . Many automobile associations must be at war with such measures. It would be unfortunate ecology goes to most people as a Constrain and one more reason to taxation and reduction of individual liberties ... The opposite would be much more interesting.
Especially if the 4 4 × SUV and have nothing to do in town, there are only a small part of the problem and the heating of a house typically consumes in a year more than a big car ... Make the calculation for yourself you'd be surprised!
So why not an eco-tax on new oil furnaces? Especially in the case of heating, it can now happen quite easily fossil energy, which is far from the case of cars!
