Calculation of a wooden floor (beam, section, center distance ...)

Present your DIY projects, your new technical ideas, your innovations to test or your self-construction work. Because doing it yourself is often more economical and can be more efficient.

Calculation of a wooden floor (beam, section, center distance ...)

by Christophe » 20/11/10, 09:29

Here is a page which gives a quick estimate according to 4 modes of calculation of the dimensioning of a wooden floor: http://www.houtinfobois.be/logiciel.php ... pl_cas.asp
With details of the calculations on the last page.

For those who really want to go into the details of the rdm calculations, know the deformation and the constraints, there is Structurix:

self-build-and-DIY / rdm-resistance-software-of-simple-and-free-materials-t8699.html
https://www.econologie.com/telechargemen ... ntraintes/

Learning is a bit tedious but it's the only free rdm software I know of. If you know of others I test.

On this page: http://www.houtinfobois.be/logiciel.php ... pl_cas.asp we have summary pages on the resistance of building wood materials:

spend a time i was using this one.
It is not too bad, it is very easy to use but there is not too much detail.

The only interest of this type of software is either:
- to verify what an existing construction can withstand.
- possibly to supervise the calculations of an engineer during the construction (in outline) kind to avoid the monstrous comma error which will put everything on the ground ...

For the rest I advise against, there are other parameters to take into account in a construction, and softs do not always take it into account. In addition one should not ignore building permits and insurance problems. So watch out!

It's not just houses and soasstures ...

But on another thread, the question of silos for pellets often arises. Or in a garage, you add a "mezzanine" to anger the oven ...

Go ask an advisor at a DIY store. Not sure he will answer you! Or anything!

Ok beaver.

Did67 is right: the rdm does not only concern "heavy" structural work that necessarily requires an engineer or architect ...

For example, build a non-prefabricated mezzanine of a few m² in your living room, a "made-to-measure" garden shed or pergola ...

Structurix is very good for doing some deformation checks when we have forgotten the formulas for its RdM courses ...
