Europe: a pass, permit or carbon tax at €450/person per year?

by Christophe » 24/04/23, 12:29

Ahhhh I'm relieved this is ONLY about energy! So it is indeed a new tax on the tax...since energies are already heavily taxed, directly or indirectly...

For consumer goods, tourism and food, we will have to wait a little longer... : Mrgreen:

€450 per year: The European Parliament introduces the first PassCarbone for individuals from 2027

The European Parliament recently approved the legislative texts that make up the “Fit for 55” package. This plan aims to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030.

However, some of the proposed measures raise concerns among individuals. From 2027, households will have to pay a fuel and heating tax of up to 45 euros per tonne… knowing that a French person emits an average of 10 tonnes of CO2 per year, or an envelope of 30 billion. This measure comes at a difficult time for citizens, in this period of inflation against a backdrop of war in Ukraine.

Despite these concerns, Parliament approved the legislative package as a whole. The plan includes a reform of the European carbon market, with a reduction in emission quotas for large industrialists and an extension of the carbon market to the maritime sector. In addition, a carbon border adjustment mechanism will be created.

Although the legislative package includes the creation of a new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and a Social Climate Fund. The risk of business relocation is related to the possibility that companies choose to move their production to countries with less restrictive environmental policies to avoid the costs associated with environmental regulations. This can lead to job loss and reduced production in countries with stricter environmental policies.

The figure of 45€ per ton is official...right?

I can't wait for them to apply this tax to all of our lifestyles, because hey, taxing energy is a bit of a has-been! : Mrgreen:

It's a ceiling, according to "them", and therefore it will be modulated according to "I don't really know what, I don't really know how".

Before talking about price, it would be good to talk about quantities....

knowing that a French person emits on average 10 tons of CO2 per year

Where does this number come from, apart from the big mouth of Phillipot who stupidly took it back (as well as a speaker on this forum)?
We are talking about CO2 (no CO2 equivalent) emitted by French people (not far from 70 million) for their heating and the supply of their vehicles from fossil fuels, and that's it.
Good luck for the 10t/French.

This remark confirms what I was saying, you didn't understand anything and are confusing everything.
It is (it would be) a European market, the quota price would be the same throughout the EU at any given time.

But you have the right to misinform and pour your bile on whoever you want, after all you are at home.

We must, even! But be careful that the supposition does not turn into a suppository because otherwise we risk having it in our c... : Mrgreen: : Oops:
