Insulating and finishing material for window frames

by Christophe » 30/05/08, 13:33

Question quiz of the day, I am looking for a "miracle" material to make the window frames finishes. The main problem is that I have a very reduced thickness of 3 to 4 cm maximum (otherwise the window is blocked).

So I'm looking to find a material that provides both insulation AND finish to eliminate the bad thermal bridges of window frames (and lintels)

This material should therefore meet the following criteria:

a) good insulation (lambda less than 0.1)
b) finish aspect (even if it means painting it)
c) easily cut at home without special tools
d) "glue or nail" on / in concrete / breeze block
e) good resistance to humidity (because the thermal bridge will not be entirely removed, therefore risk of condensation)
f) maximum thickness: 4 cm

I don't dream too much: finding an ecological material that meets these criteria is mission impossible : Cheesy: although i may be wrong ...

ps: a rot-proof wood could perhaps be suitable, right?

Hello,

I recommend you the mountain ash !!
Rotproof and do not work. We made them the stars of barcasses in time!
It is also the nickname of the workers in the arsenal of Toulon (the mountain ash and its mountain ash) so will you know why ?? : Lol:

bonjou,

It is difficult to find, and the best approach is via marine carpenters .....
But in this category of wood several are very interesting for your pb !!
Ah yes ! in the form of boards of different thicknesses etc .....

Houla it will be hard ... well I have more than to contact the parquet floorer of our village :)

I think he will offer me teak or ipe ... to see the thickness and if his tools can make boards for this kind of application ...

But I do not reject the idea of taking another synthetic material ... if you know any tips?

synthetic, you will be hard pressed to find a material that you can easily work with a potable finish (PU foam, PVC profile, blah)
I think the best compromise is wood or plaster if your support is irregular, plaster has a lambda of 0.35 higher than that of wood
