Install an HP scanner with a generic drivers driver

by Christophe » 07/04/08, 13:08

In other words: how to install a scanner without using the manufacturer program?

I am looking, in fact, to install a scanner (that of an hp1215 all-in-one printer) without having to use the monstrous crap that is HP director ... that is to say using other software acquisition like Gimp?

I'm struggling badly (in fact I find nothing at all ...), is that kk1 has already solved this kind of problem ???

Did you try to install a generic driver by hand?

There are some provided, normally with XP.
When it asks for the driver, there is an option that allows you to choose the driver's own roof rather than letting XP choose.

Well there is nothing like a scanner that matches (even from a distance) in the list offered ... : Cry:

Normally, all scanners are "TWAIN" compatible which is a kind of transfer protocol between scanner and PC.
It is this protocol that softwares like Gimp use to control the scanner.
I'll be you, I'll try it out with the first "twain compatible" driver you can find.
Isn't there a "generic twain scanner" style entry?

Afterwards, you just have to pay attention to the type of port (// or USB).

I have one all-in-one too.

This stuff is a printer with a scanner fitted into each other. This is also why I like it.

But when you start installing the zinzin, the scanner is only detected afterwards ...

So in my opinion, you are bothering your head ... Christophe. You have to go through their driver for everything to be detected. When it's a simple scanner, the problem is solved by simply twain ...

Personally, I installed their bazaar and it works, but I find that it takes 40 MB to drive a scanner + printer and that it is far too much ... To wonder if they have not inserted bitmaps uncompressed in their C ++ code : Evil:

I even tried to find a generic twain driver on the net but failed ...

I think Remundo is right there is nothing to do ... except use their spyware :(

Okay, well sorry for you.
Personally, as I have room, I preferred to buy a separate printer and scanner.
It avoids having to throw one when the other is HS.

Well it is clear that in the end it is not so econological the all in one ... : Evil:

But don't be sorry I found a solution: I installed the full pack on my laptop which I use only occasionally ...
