I have done this several times without any problem, to install SSDs on laptops, but not recently.
The last time, in 2015, I used a simple and basic trick: "DiskClone".

I don't think the choice of software is critical. In the worst case, as the destination disk is blank, if there are problems we can start all over with another software.

I have 1 TB to clone ... I tested rapidos with Acronis (certified by Crucial ...) and I have a warning message when choosing the source: apparently there are partitions that they do not know and it will therefore make a "hard" copy ... ie sector by sector ...

Also some say that cloning copies errors: my source disk has 1 reallocated sector ...

Likely. A cloning is by definition a carbon copy of sectors. The software does not interpret anything at all. If it did not copy the errors, the destination disk would no longer be a clone.

Yes SixK, I don't doubt it but I was lazy ^^

Finally, I tried the easy way that Crucial offered.

This did the job in less than 3 hours ... which makes an average transfer rate close to 100 MB / s to process 1 TB ... so not bad!

I used the home software (Samsung) for at least 6 SSDs (Always Samsung), it always worked the first time, without errors.

It is because it was certified and a little less boring to get started that I used (the 450 MB of Acronis is a complete suite of software in fact ... and since I have a crucial apparently I have the license that could be used for later ...) ... and I was amazed at the speed in fact (despite some unreadable sectors ... on old partitions that I no longer use so not very serious ... well we will see tomorrow if it boots or not! )

The Samsung also makes the copy under a boot menu?

I believe I had 3 or 4 reboots ...
