Good plants, but do not abuse some:
for example the nutmeg contains myristicin and carcinogenic safrol and it is also hallucinogenic (consuming 2 nuts leads to a coma, with the possibility of respiratory arrest);
the laurel_sauce contains terpene derivatives not necessarily harmless in large doses (repeated herbal teas) etc.

a distinction must therefore be made between aromatic use (low doses, occasional use) and repeated use for therapeutic purposes.

With rare exceptions, linked to the lack of information, the risks of overdose are almost impossible because the spices have very pronounced tastes which limit their absorption in their unconcentrated form.
Then a therapeutic herb can prove to be beneficial to one and of no interest to another, hence the wide range of "simple" allowing an individualized choice and corresponding to the individual and his possible "pathology".

Garlic proves to be 100 times more effective than antibiotics and acts in record time

A significant discovery from Washington State University shows that garlic is 100 times more effective than two popular antibiotics in fighting diseases caused by bacteria that cause foodborne illness.


Their work was recently published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, a continuation of the author's previous research in Microbiology Applied to the Environment, which has conclusively demonstrated that a garlic concentrate is effective in inhibiting the growth of Campylobacter jejuni bacteria.
Garlic is probably one of the most powerful natural foods. This is one of the reasons why people who follow a Mediterranean diet have such healthy and long lives. Garlic is also very effective in research laboratories.
"I am very passionate about this work because it shows that this compound has the potential to reduce pathogenic bacteria from the environment and from our food," said Xiaonan Lu, a research scientist and chief author of the article.
One of the most interesting discoveries is that garlic increases the overall level of antioxidants in the body. Scientifically known as Allium sativa, garlic is famous in history for its ability to fight viruses and bacteria. Louis Pasteur noticed in 1858 that bacteria died when they were sprayed with garlic. Since the Middle Ages, garlic has been used to heal wounds, crushed or sliced ​​and applied directly to wounds to inhibit the spread of infection. The Russians name garlic, the Russian penicillin.
"This is the first step towards developing or thinking about new intervention strategies," said Michael Kokel, co-author of research on Campylobacter jejuni for 25 years.

Diallyl disulfide is an organosulfur compound derived from garlic and a few other plants in the Allium family. It is produced during the breakdown of the allicin released when the garlic is crushed.
Lu and his colleagues observed the ability of diallyl disulfide to kill bacteria when they are protected by a viscous biofilm (secreted by the bacteria, NdT), which makes them 1000 times more resistant to antibiotics than bacterial cells floating freely. They found that the compound can easily penetrate the protective biofilm and kill bacterial cells by combining with a sulfur-containing enzyme, thereby changing the function of the enzyme and effectively blocking the metabolism of the cell.
The researchers found that diallyl disulfide was also 100 times more effective than the antibiotics called erythromycin and ciprofloxacin and that it often worked in record time.
Two previous works published last year by Lu and his university colleagues in Environmental and Applied Microbiology and Analytical Chemistry have shown that diallyl disulfide and other organosulfur compounds effectively kill foodborne pathogens such as as Listeria Monocytogenes and Escherichia Coli O157: H7.
"Diallyl disulfide can be useful in reducing the level of Campobobacters in the environment and in cleaning industrial food processing equipment, as both bacteria are found in the biofilm," said Konkel.
"Diallyl disulfide could make many foods less dangerous," said Barbara Rasco, co-author of the last three articles and Lu's consultant for her doctorate in food science. "It can be used to clean food preparation surfaces and as a preservative in packaged foods like pasta and potato salads, coleslaw and deli salads."
"This would not only extend the shelf life but also reduce the growth of potentially harmful bacteria," she said.
The natural substance can also be obtained without the artificial introduction of dangerous chemicals that would disrupt its ability to reduce disease.
Ironically, many researchers believe that antibiotics can be one of the many factors that help clog the intestines of young children.
