Thermal bridges: standards and rules

by Christophe » 30/01/13, 23:08

Small courtyard on the thermal bridges via an interesting and quite complete article of the Moniteur ...

How it works: thermal bridges

Thermal bridges designate parts of a building envelope that cause significant heat leakage to the outside. An absence or degradation of the insulation is generally at the origin of these leaks. Thermal link bridges (PTLs), due to interruption of the insulation at the intersection of the building walls, and integrated thermal bridges (PTI), generated by the interruption or degradation of the insulation, are distinguished. within the wall.

Location of thermal bridges

The location of thermal link bridges (PTL) can be carried out on plans for buildings to be built, using an infrared camera for existing buildings. The main thermal bridges of connection are located at the junctions between the floors, the walls, the carpentry and the roofs. Integrated thermal bridges (PTI), which are numerous in the building, are due to the presence of frameworks or fasteners through insulation systems.

To target thermal bridges, a infrared thermometer can be very useful: https://www.econologie.com/shop/thermome ... p-132.html

Treatment of thermal bridges

by ATE.Conseil » 14/10/13, 08:37

Very interesting subject and very vast than that one .... this being the case, some thermal bridges can be treated quite easily ... others will be amplified by lack of reflection during the realization of the construction or the renovation.
    - New construction: The treatment of the thermal bridges is quite simple to realize if one takes the time to think about it: Abouts of isolated slabs, External insulation of the walls (ITE), waterproofness and isolation of the headers ... This reflection is all the more obvious today as the #RT2012 imposes it. Indeed, when calculating the #BBio, we realize that poorly treated thermal bridges can be responsible for nearly 60% of the bioclimatic losses of the construction.
    - Renovation of the old: The real problem of treatment of thermal bridges! Indeed, it can be sometimes difficult to treat them without creating disorder in the building ... sometimes the ITE (for example) will even double the losses due to these thermal bridges.
However, it should be noted that sometimes little is enough to effectively reduce thermal bridging.
