A tidal turbine inaugurated in Brittany

by Arthur_64 » 29/03/08, 11:00

Hopefully they have provided the protective grid so as not to cut the fish into rings!

20.000 watts under the sea

In Brittany, tomorrow's energy will come partly from the sea. The first prototype of an underwater tidal turbine for the production of electricity from ocean currents will be submerged in France on Monday in Bénodet.

"After missing 20 years ago the creation of an industrial wind power industry, France should not miss that of tidal turbines". It is with this certainty that Jean-François Daviau, a former financial officer of the French Institute of Petroleum, and Hervé Majastre, doctor in electrochemistry, created in 2000 in Quimper, the firm HydroHélix Energies for the construction of a tidal turbine . "If we had known it would take eight years,
we probably would not have embarked on the adventure, ”comments Jean-François Daviau, while their tidal turbine named Sabella D03, named after a sea worm, is inaugurated this morning in the small seaside resort of Finistère.

Ah good news!

For fish, at 15 rpm I think they will have time to escape right?

Here are 2 articles on the question:

The link on the tidal turbine of the site "Le Télégramme, gratuit", can be read for € 0,80 ...
: Cheesy:
Here's another:

For fish in rings, this will be a new source of activity. Surimi factory, directly, rather than fueling trawlers with diesel.

@Gegyx: Mwaarf was free when I saw it :(

@Christophe: Yes and the vibrations must keep them away

Yes, me ditto, now ...
Earlier I came across the newspaper's home page, not the article (?)…

To be forgiven, I will attach this article in PDF…

20 MegaWatt, I'm waiting to see ...

20 megawatts Crest ?

I would be curious to see energetic Egyptians and Opportunities credible on this famous "tidal power potential", and compare it to that of solar ...

Finally, all initiatives and advances in renewable energy are good to take : Idea:

Yes it is not obvious from such articles…

20 000W in the telegram…
---
Finally ! Despite the difficulty in conceiving the financing of a project of such magnitude, the Quimper entrepreneurs (Finistère) of the company HydroHélix have finally managed to complete a prototype project for their tidal turbine 1MW, which will be established next January at the exit of the Odet estuary, south of Quimper.
---
"Bénodet will not be an industrial site, the current is not sufficient there, but it is a very good test site", notes Hervé Majastre. With a production capacity of 10 kilowatts, this pilot is not intended to provide electricity on land, but will be equipped with a battery of sensors to measure the mechanical design of the machine, its performance, its impact on the environment and especially on fish . If successful, a real industrial unit could emerge within two years. Sabella will be exhibited at Brest 2008.

20 MegaWatt peak?
No, it's not on the crest of the waves ... It's at the bottom of the Odet, at -19m.

Oops, my brain had read 20 KW ... a small failing neuron.

But still, the bottom of my question was whether the 20 Watt was regular ... Because the relevant power is the average power produced in the year.

Afterwards, economically, they think they will release kWh at what cost? Because I have the impression that it is still very expensive ... I read 750 Euros for a 000m x 5m prototype ... : Shock:

If it's to produce 20 kW peaks, it's insane ...
