I tested temperature and humidity sensors

by phil59 » 08/06/23, 23:38

I had some good prices on Ali, like 1.79€ to 1.99€, plus reduction, without delivery costs, and I ordered 3 sensors.

The usual thermometer indicated around 23°-24° approximately....

A priori, not too much difference in TP, a little more humidity, but I have nothing else to test, but there is enough to get a reasonable idea, I think.

All placed in the same place?

Doesn't consume too many batteries? The classic sensor, I find that the battery does not last very long, with wifi in addition??

Tsss... at less than two euros per gadget, China-France trip included, we don't ask this kind of question to a convinced ecologist (in one word)! : roll: : Mrgreen:

It's clear, I'm the first to buy stuff on aliexpress that I need (or think I need...)
But buying these stews (in Tuya protocol as well: yuck!) just to try because it's "cheap" is anything but ecology.

For the moment they are all in the same place, just to do some tests.

1 is with a 2032 battery, so......

The other 2 with AAA batteries.

The software is provided with.

But, as soon as I have the "courage", "the morale" to do it, it will be piloted on a "raspberry" PI3, with jeedom.

The utility, will be to know, if I have to restart only the circulator of the balloon, or if it will be necessary to put a blow of boiler.

The wood stove (boiler) is too tight to heat the water from the 500L buffer tank, just the small one, and the house, depending on the outside tp.

So yes the stuff comes from China, like many things you buy on amazon, or on specialized surfaces.

Sonoff stuff I've had since 2018-2019, which are still running, even if they're crap, and they do the job they're asked to do.

And at that price, I didn't hesitate to test, it's all about calibrating the tp, but it seems to be about right.

To save batteries, the module only transmits information every hour? https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005004838519397.html
If the mobile app is not running, do you lose the info?

No, it's Tuya/smartlife, so it goes through Chinese cloud servers...

I also see a welcome offer for one device but not for several, does it smell like a trick?

Ok, free for individuals, with an addiction to Chinese goodwill, but the day it goes wrong, you just have to cry : Cry: https://tutoriels.domotique-store.fr/co ... 6061260829

You found the answer yourself:

izentrop wrote:but the day it bugs, you just have to cry

Seriously, I don't see how the temperature in my living room needs to go through servers in China?
Not so long ago we were still drunk with the ecological cost of a simple e-mail, and now the slightest bullshit goes through a cloud server on the other side of the world and it's no longer a problem for anyone. ?

And then hey, the tuya protocol is not the most open.
To use it you have to install an app on your smartphone and open your wifi network to Chinese (I'm caricaturing but it's not far...) you don't have any control over the configuration of the thing.
who knows what exactly transits to their server once this opening is made?

The only thing I have in Tuya is my air conditioning... because I have no choice... but it's still an option. The day when the connection no longer works, the device continues to work on its own. And in case of doubt about "data leaks" just disconnect the wifi module and the same, the air conditioning continues to operate normally.

Everything else in my home automation works locally, with open, transparent, and open-source protocols. it doesn't need the net to work and even if the manufacturer stops and disappears, everything continues to work normally, you don't end up with a "brick" just because the manufacturer has decided to move on (hello Orange.. .)

When in doubt, my surveillance cameras are on a separate Ethernet network which is physically completely separate from the network with Internet access. Because these IP cameras, often from Chinese sources, always tend to connect to who knows what server even if we don't ask them anything, who knows if they don't send images of us who knows where to our knowledge...

In short, when in doubt, I have zero confidence in connected Chinese gadgets (and not only Chinese by the way) if it's not open-source or trustworthy, I pay close attention to any personal info that the thing could transmit .
