Nuclear waste: ongoing catastrophe in the USA (WIPP)

by Christophe » 27/05/14, 18:04

A disaster in the storage site of the first nuclear waste is underway in New Mexico ...

Some info on a site of anti nuclear activists:

WIPP: nuclear disaster 655 meters underground

Friday May 9, 2014, by Contact

Since February 14, 2014, a nuclear disaster has been going on at the WIPP (Waste Isolation Pilot Plant), the deep storage center for military and research radioactive waste in New Mexico, USA. One or more containers 655 meters underground were opened following a chemical explosion. The most terrible radioactivity - Plutonium, Americium - has escaped and is escaping. For more than a month, no one entered these galleries. If the question of reversibility preoccupies some, then the demonstration is clear: it is well entered, it is well brought out!

Disclaimer: This article is not a technical reference on WIPP. We don't give a damn about the details and we don't want to be anti-nuclear experts. We do not want to manage their filth, nor be checks and balances, nor be useful in nuclear accidents. We want to get rid of this gangrene which is the nuclear industry and the industrial society which eats our vital substance and leads us all to cancers, to diseases, to stupidity, to death. We want to live normally on this planet. Let them go to Mars to make their deadly filth - at least they will be cunning: there will be no opponents since life is only artificial! While waiting to be able to put them out of harm's way, we highlight here the aberation that would constitute the construction of CIGEO in France in Bure, even in prototype, even in dreams of techno-nucleo-crate.

May 21, 2014: official, more than 500 barrels of Plutonium ready to explode

New Mexico officials give the number of such drums [1], which come from Los Alamos and are suspected of exploding due to the use of "kitty litter" as an absorbent:
- 369 drums at the bottom of the WIPP,
- 57 in Los Alamos,
- more than 100 at WCS. The orders of magnitude correspond to the figures given by the SRIC (see below).

Ryan Flynn, secretary of the environment for the state of New Mexico (NMED) and the company that manages the WIPP have unveiled plans to plug the rooms containing these drums at the bottom of the hole. We know that, but we weren't entitled to the plans.

Always Ryan Flynn [2]:

“Based on the evidence presented to NMED, the current handling, storage, treatment and transportation of the hazardous nitrate salt bearing waste containers at LANL may present an imminent and substantial endangerment to health or the environment.”

He says that these barrels present an imminent danger to health and the environment. Ah. Damn. The others, right? Phew.

So it's urgent. At any time, another barrel can explode, several others why not. It would be embarrassing if workers walling the front door were there when the next explosion took place ...

Now the debate is: scrap door or concrete wall? And then also: what color? Is there a carpenter in Carlsbad? How to materialize the fact that it is dangerous to go there? For example with a simple symbol? Who could be read by an extra-terrestrial or a future inhabitant of the earth who will understand nothing of what we are saying there?
