There, I think it's something that doesn't have much to do with wine, even if it plays a role, it's very far from being the primary factor!

It's like summer, there are a lot fewer people dying from the cold...

It's obviously humor...although...

When you start with an abysmal deficit of neurons and cognitive abilities, someone who is well stocked with them from the start can largely be intellectually superior even when alcoholic!

There is also this old legend that alcohol kills the least efficient neurons first, leaving room for new, more efficient ones!!

I understood very well!

But, I wanted to put a diaper back on, because, with those I hold, I can share!

Although if 50 deaths per year, with alcohol, plus 000 because of combustion engine emissions, we almost reach 40.

Well, okay, heat engines are 20% less harmful than alcohol!

Well, I join Christophe in the cellar, with my hands on his head!!!!!! : Arrow: : Arrow: : Arrow: : Arrow:

And, this evening, I will have 2 aperitifs for your health!

Le Parisien interviewed, on October 14, 2023, Dr. Pierre Souvet, eminent cardiologist and president of the France Environmental Health Association. According to a recent joint study by the Île-de-France Regional Health Observatory (ORS) and Airparif, it appears that simply observing the thresholds recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) could prevent the loss of at least of 7 lives each year on average in the region. Nationally, the figures range from 900 premature deaths linked to air pollution, according to Public Health France, to an astonishing 48, according to Harvard University estimates. A study from the European Journal of Cardiology falls between the two, citing around 000 premature deaths.

According to Pierre Souvet, there is no doubt that air pollution constitutes a major health issue, killing more than alcohol, causing 49 deaths annually in France. Globally, mortality attributed to air pollution even exceeds that linked to smoking. Research highlights that an excess risk of mortality persists even when the values recommended by the WHO are respected. The worrying observation is that the deleterious effects of air pollution extend to a multitude of health areas. Firstly, vascular diseases, affecting the heart and lungs, are at the forefront, causing arterial blockages leading to myocardial infarctions or strokes. Respiratory conditions, sometimes fatal, such as asthma, are added to the list.

Cancers linked to air pollution

In addition, lung and bladder cancers are directly linked to prolonged exposure to air pollution. A recent study in France linked this form of pollution to breast cancer, raising new questions about the extent of its harmful effects. Brain damage is also being confirmed, with increased rates of diseases such as Alzheimer's in people living near traffic routes, as well as cognitive disorders, particularly in children, leading to verbal difficulties and a reduction in intelligence quotient. . Pollution also promotes antibiotic resistance, diabetes, and glaucoma.

Alarmingly, air pollution significantly worsens Covid-19 mortality in the worst affected areas. The fragility of the respiratory system facilitates the penetration of the virus, although this has not yet been demonstrated by scientific studies. For the cardiologist, it is legitimate to wonder whether similar problems do not arise with other respiratory diseases such as bronchiolitis or the flu. Currently, an emerging threat lies in ultrafine particles, notably PM1, which measure less than one micron. Modern car engines emit more and more of these tiny particles, which turn out to be even more inflammatory and capable of crossing physiological barriers to reach the deepest regions of our body. Studies on this topic remain limited, leaving many questions unanswered.
