Yes Ptilu, I already said it elsewhere but he doesn't want to understand ...
The hydraulic ram transforms kinetic energy (mass speed) into potential energy (mass pressure) through the inertia of a moving mass.
And that's what's great.

Brilliant technical analysis worthy of radio bistro.
Ptilu wrote:To cut it short:
water hammer = shock wave.
Out of a shock wave, you have an increase in pressure, a decrease in speed, and an increase in temperature!
(see Hugenot's equation)
The system cannot work forever if you loop. So no perpetual lifting
What are you doing STP?

Not understand, what Captain?
Technical reminder about ram pumps:
"Once launched, it does not stop. Or almost. Only the drop in the inflow, frost or an impurity in the water that would block the valves puts an end to its regular thrusts."
That effectively to start or compensate for any losses, they require a micro pulse?
That such a pump consumes 100.000 th of a conventional pump and is more reliable?
That Versailles was so watered?
Otherwise the hilarious comments of Cousin Albert on this subject ...
"And yes! Engineers panic and flee the ferroresonance of transformers (destructive demonic noise) that conceal an electric zero point machine (transverter), there is indeed this hydraulic equivalent where engineers panic and flee other demonic noises called water hammers which contain a zero point machine;)
Then there is the thermodynamic variant with the famous Stirling engine and many other cases where Mother Nature starts to resonate or oscillate in a non-linear, parametric or stochastic manner ... "

It's more than smoke here ... or it's tough!
ps: can you reduce the size (size) of your stp signature? Thank you

The correct solution over 2400 years old
The principle of the explanation is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heron%27s_fountain
By descending into the water, the assembly hidden behind a hand, the air is compressed and expels the water which gushes as long as the repelled air pushes this water.
see also the physical explanations:
http://arxiv.org/ftp/physics/papers/0310/0310039.pdf
So nothing perpetual or any hidden pump, but only the physics of Archimedes' time who must have turned in his grave !!

Liberty equality fraternity sauerkraut
The ram pump is almost perpetual, which is nothing like your dear Dedelco curiosity.
Donc ...
Charming and instructive but unrelated to the ram pump which has 2 valves and a vacuum energy from resonance.

I am repeating myself, Kistine is for you:
Do not prevent "almost perpetual" I love ... It's like the almost eternal or almost infinite ... or almost mir

And hop, the miracle of world peace, finally explained by a faithful little bitch:

Very strong !
Sage is the rabbit who asks us the right questions!
The real irony is that, this pump is, semi-perpetual and battery-free, like real rabbits.
It will pump as long as the 2 valves are watertight, which is therefore not more perpetual than the result of a battery, from the brand that sponsors the pinpins, but just, free or free energy of resonance, a mechanical manifestation of the zero point in low frequency resonance.
The characteristic of the ram pump is that the water which is pumped out comes out in barbs because of the water hammer.
The one shown in the video, has a nice continuous stream so, The explanation of the video is more of what Dedeleco said than the ram pump you mentioned, CQFD.
