Louisiana and BP: Methane hydrate is acting up

by gegyx » 09/05/10, 11:39

Louisiana: When Methane Hydrate Does Its Own ...

The setbacks of the BP oil platform, whose well vomits its gas and oil since its explosion.

http://tempsreel.nouvelobs.com/actualit ... etire.html

BP engineers removed the "dome" that was placed over the oil spill due to the formation of ice-like crystals.

Catastrophic chaining (All is well Madame la Marquise ...).
Presumably the engineers were overwhelmed by their improvidence for this accident.

For the bell, because of the ice that forms and clogs the pipe, they can not pump 85% of the oil that comes out of it ...

And leaving it there, it would still limited the leak, right? Bell + ice.

--
Now, they will try to melt the ice (But if it is too much, the methane relaxing will enjoy a little more with men).

Not good for the greenhouse effect, all this ...

Hi gegyx
other remarks

Burn the oil slick off,
It's cheaper (than 3,5 billion)
or it's free : Mrgreen:

Small classic accident, predictable, much less than the Amoco Cadiz, for the moment in volume of oil!
Presumably the engineers were overwhelmed by their improvidence for this accident.

Typical, rather the financiers and insurers than the real engineers, but when a nuclear power plant will sooner or later fool with certainty making a new Chernobyl or Chelyabinsk, we will repeat this same absurd sentence, when we should stop any new nuclear power plant, given the huge risk, immeasurable with it oil.
We pollute an entire region of millions of inhabitants, evacuated in a day at most (imagine Lyon evacuated), where we can never come back to live and cultivate, for centuries, even millennia, (oil, never evacuated, cleaned in less than 10ans, but plutonium, radium, 30000ans, etc. from the second to the billion years !!), with the radioactivity which spreads perniciously everywhere in the world (birds, water table , air, animals, etc.), with an increase in the number of deaths (but safe, with diseases of all kinds), an economic disaster of the country uncontrollable !!
This insane risk is taken by France and its best engineers in the pay of a nuclear lobby!
Their improvidence is frightening and criminal !!!!
It is necessary to evacuate all the houses with less than 100Km of nuclear power station because the risk is superior to that of Xynthia (once on 210ans, against 1 on 100 years so optimistic !!!!

I allow myself a small correction of your sentence, in order to remove any ambiguity:
...because the probability is superior to that of Xynthia ...

It has been a long time since the oil companies counterfeit environmental risks, despite the hundreds of accidents already passed.
the principle is simple:if it pays, we do it.

I join dedelco concerning the nuclear risk, it is the "tooth decay syndrome", as long as there are no accidents there are no changes ... it is distressing.

he joined dedelco on the nuclear risk, it is the "dental caries syndrome", as long as there are no accidents there are no changes ... it is distressing.

Only, when we had a cavity and trouble, we brush our teeth carefully not to do it again (very effective on me !!) and more we vaccinate a little against cavities, but the two major nuclear accidents have not changed anything, nor vaccinated, we continue like crazy !!!

It may be worse than any oil spill from a sinking tanker because the tap is still open and we do not know for how long ...

Thank you not to turn the subject into a Nieme subject anti nuke ... this is not the subject! : Evil:

Recently, a representative of an oil company said (about the sinking of a tanker) that it was less expensive to "wipe" one or two oil spills from time to time than to take the maximum measures in terms of prevention. risks!

I hope that BP will go to the cash register and for real !, nevertheless, given the submarine "jackpot" (in the Arctic in particular) the "petrocrats" will not hesitate to go into ever more remote areas.

The reserves of methane hydrates are ten times those of all the oil and it is enough to heat them a few degrees to make gigantic boom (the oil rig has fizzled a bit) and to multiply the CO2 by 12 at once, if we warm up a little the bottom of the oceans !!!

And this happened without the man in the past in nature !!!

This is to say that our dear buffoons BP always aim to pump once repair, suddenly a few days they do not care ...

A solution had been advanced against the black tide, it is to lay a law that requires the tanker to insure against an unlimited amount against this kind of accident ... But exit because too much money at stake. ..
