Hello everyone, I'm new to your site.
I want to mount a manual water pump. The classic archi-known model with an arm.
My pump does not have a foot valve. It is a "recovered" pump and perhaps it was provided with a valve originally, I do not know.
So I decided to mount a standard valve on my pump.
My question: Should the foot valve be placed immediately under the pump or at the end of the suction pipe?
A hardware vendor (Leroy Merlin, not to mention it!) Told me that the pump should have had an internal valve and advises me to put my valve immediately under the pump. But in this case, how can I fill the suction pipe. I'm afraid I can not get my pump started!
I hope to have been clear. Thank you for your help.
Installation of a manual water pump
It is desirable to place a non return under the level
some water . Since this is an old pump, it will be necessary
replace the piston leather.
the inside of the pump if it is rusty, so as not to
not prematurely wear it.
The pump is primed by filling it with water from above.
At the beginning it will be necessary to pump firmly and pour into it several times
water. Once the cook is wet and the pump is primed, a glass
or 2 water will be enough to start, hopefully
it will not even be necessary to pour water if a non return
has been installed.
Protect the pump from freezing if a non return valve has been installed,
or purge it under the freezing point of your region.
Wishing you lots of happiness and big muscles
with your new toy.

at the bottom of the water, suction strainer and non-return valve.
no more than 7m of pipe depth (flexible "corrugated" or rigid).
you can also connect a pumping wind turbine to the manual pump!

you are not blogged to put a valve just under the pump as it was originally.
a valve on the strainer at the bottom of the water is rather better, especially for filling the pipe, as you say.
effectively, if the piston seal is made of leather, you must fill the pump, put the piston down and let it soak for a while.
be careful not to put too small a suction pipe. minimum 1 "

arm pump
good evening, it amazes me that there is still a leather seal on this type of pump, if you buy a pump of this type nowadays, the seal is rubber, if it is possible to find seals for these pumps you can replace it, otherwise you can make a seal by cutting an old air chamber, it may be the case,

This is precisely the question I ask myself for my pump (relatively recent <10 years). There is no more seal at the level of the piston, and therefore it does not rise any more water. The problem is, I couldn't find any trace of the gasket other than a mark that looked like leather material.
I tried to put in rubber seal: it does not slip on the interior wall of the pump (in cast iron) and therefore tears off immediately.
I can't find a joint and I don't even know what shape and size it should have. In addition I have neither the brand nor the model of the pump (no inscription on the pump and I only have a receipt of the time ...).
So if someone could guide me, either to redo a joint, or to find a supplier of spare parts (this exists, a friend found some for his pump identical to mine, but his store does not have any more and n 'will have more ...).
I would still like not to have to change the whole pump
Thank you in advance.

manual fire pump
hello, once during excavations in the forest, someone of my family found all kinds of objects dating from the 2nd war, old bullets, in a bunker they found an old manual fire pump, it looks like little close to the models of the videos just above, except this one was made in a dark gray metal, it worked perfectly well, to use in a bucket or with a suction pipe, but the problem I no longer have because it is fell on the ground and it broke in 3, the metal was fragile like glass, there was even a small hole I wanted to plug it with tin but by heating with the lamp soldered the hole has grown , even with a simple lighter you would melt this metal
here is another type of manual pump that we still find here and the

The join in baking is not only a join but also a
valve.
to redo it, just cut a circle in a bake
thick, 3-4 mm if I remember correctly, with a diameter of
2 cm higher than that of the pipe. Then the cook is put to soak
in the water to give it its flexibility. Once very flexible
fix it in the center of the piston and introduce everything into the pipe.
Always put water in the pump before activating it.
Water is used both to prime and to lubricate.

good evening, for the images in each new post, there is clearly marked that it is not necessary to use an independent host
DO NOT USE independent image hosts (imageshak or other) because your images will be deleted sooner or later.
I made the copy paste, how many times I came across subjects or the images disappeared, in addition with that we do not even know what we are talking about
here we had to see a manual pump with its piston whose leather seal is worn
