It is especially striking in the sense that you do not seem aware that there is ALREADY a presidential plane !! It is certainly a "small" A319 therefore smaller than the new one, but still !!!
When you take this type of plane on a commercial line, it contains between 150 and 200 passengers, while that of the president has only forty seats, a real bedroom and a bathroom for the chef of the State and his wife.

Never has a president or a minister traveled with Air France during his mandate except for a media hit !!

The info is not new, Nicolas Sarkozy wants new planes for his trips! The current fleet, made up of two A319 airbuses and six Falcons, is too old and not efficient enough. It is thanks to her that the head of state and members of the government travel most of the time. This fleet is under the command of ETEC "Alpha" (the transport, training and calibration squadron) or also called GAEL. The flights are identified under the COTAM “0xy” code, COTAM 0001 being reserved for the President of the Republic and COTAM 0002 for a foreign chief.

In July Sarkozy went to Japan for the G8 summit, in August he went to Beijing for the Olympics, how did he travel? So with "his" A319 with several stopovers? In addition to being escorted by "his" Mirage "2000s so with tanker planes and all that over Russia? Sounds unbelievable to me. Does anyone have the answer?

An A330 has a far greater range than an A319.

Chirac used Japan Air Lines as First Sinister and also as Head of State.

1. It is entirely normal for the Elysée Palace to have an A330 type airplane for diplomatic trips by the President, but especially by the entire Delegation.

2. It is not obvious that the purchase of this plane and its use is more expensive than to pay the full price tickets to Air France or to "Air Etranger", or worse, to arrange expressly for small private planes. .

3. What will be really expensive in case of conflict (or not ...) is the escort of hunters necessary to protect this large A330 calf as easy to shoot as a cow in a stable ...

4. I admit that it is a bad time in times of recession and difficulties for France, but it is nevertheless demagogic to criticize this purchase; the president is still not going to move in a reformed Transal ... And even if he would not move at all any more, would the schmilblick be better :?:

For once I quite agree with you Remundo but the information provided by Christophe still makes me say that in these times of lean cows for the State (which supposedly has no more money), l purchase of a new aircraft fitted out to the tastes of Mr. and Mrs. could have been avoided; in my opinion, it is rather proof of bad taste at the taxpayer's expense.
Unless of course that the existing A319 is really too old to be able to fly or to be adapted to new technical installations essential to the safety of the transported people :D

1) Yes the range is a problem for sure!

2) The A319 is a recent aircraft! To say that he is aging is false! The 1st A319s were released in 1996 !!

The A319 is actually a shortened version of the famous A320: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A319#A319

The A319 is a shortened version of the A320. Equipped with the same reactors and the same kerosene capacity but with fewer passengers than the A320, its range with 124 passengers in a 2-class configuration is 7 km, the largest in the family

3) The range of action of the Concorde was not exceptional I believe ... on the other hand the concorde cost more, at all levels, than an A330 ...

From 1981 to 1995, François Mitterrand used a concorde requisitioned from Air France

ps: in the article it also says "DES A319" .... there are several then?

There was also one for the Prime Minister, and I don't know what the rest of the fleet was for. However, I'm sure the president's plane is the only plane more compared to replacing the old fleet.

Yes. Not only is it a bonus, but other planes can defend themselves by saying "I'm no bigger than the one I'm replacing, just more modern". He is bigger than everyone else.
