The law of supply and demand would be true in mass consumption if marketing and advertising did not exist. Because the main purpose of these 2 activities is it not to create a need where there was none?

There is 15ans, nobody had (or almost) and nobody needed it (or, to use the terms mentioned above, there was no request). With a big blow of pub, this object became indispensable and few people would be able to do without it ...
And this example is transposable to a lot of objects or devices: MP3 players, air conditioning, ...
