Pollution in the Paris region: benzene, particles,

by jean63 » 14/02/08, 21:21

Et voila : Evil: since we persist in dealing only with CO2 emissions while forgetting the pollution on the ground which is very dangerous for health, we are in the process of reaping the policy of all diesel:

- Particles = diesel engine

- Nitrogen oxides = diesel engine

- Benzene = petrol engine

These pollutants are not emitted by LPG engines (I profit by the way), too bad Bucheron is no longer there to contradict me : Lol: .

We are talking about automobile pollution around the ring road and not emissions from oil-fired boilers .

11/02/08 - air
Parisian periphery: very polluted air
A study carried out around the Porte de Gentilly in Paris by the Île de France Air Quality Monitoring Network (Airparif) has shown that the pollution level is 1,5 to 3 times higher along the ring road than the average pollution in the surrounding neighborhoods.

79 measurement sites were set up for a month. Three pollutants linked to road traffic were monitored: nitrogen oxides, benzene and particles, regulated for their health effects.

According to Airparif, "the measurements and calculations carried out over a 300 m wide strip centered on the Peripheral allow the annual averages for each pollutant to be evaluated. The results show that air quality standards have been exceeded near the peripheral. ".

"Problematic" levels of benzene and particulates

"The quality objectives for nitrogen dioxide (40 μg / m3) are exceeded on average over a strip of 200 m on either side of the Peripheral. Benzene and particulate levels are problematic in the vicinity. of the Peripheral over a strip of a few tens of meters ".

At the level of the measurement sites installed along the Peripheral, "very variable concentrations are obtained: of the order of 1.5 to 3 times higher than the level of the average pollution of the neighboring districts (background pollution), depending on the development of the road network and its configuration ".

"The further away from traffic, the lower the pollution levels, until reaching the basic level of the Parisian agglomeration. This decrease is more or less rapid depending on the urbanization and the pollutant considered ".

Only when he has brought down the last tree, the last river contaminated, the last fish caught that man will realize that money is not edible (Indian MOHAWK).

Ah well yes ... but as long as we do not have full electric / thermal hybrids, whether they are Diesel or petrol, we will get it all ... With full-hybrid, we will still have traffic jams, but no chemical or noise pollution (except at more than 50 km / h, basically)
