Re: Reduction of methane in cows
https://sain-et-naturel.ouest-france.fr ... de-80.htmlGiving algae supplements to cows reduces methane emissions by 80%
Today, peer-reviewed research published in the journal Plos One provides precise figures on exactly how much methane could be saved over a long period of time, and the numbers are staggering. 1 Conducted by agronomist Ermias Kebreab, director of the World Food Center, and doctoral student Breanna Roque, the study randomly studied 21 Angus-Hereford cattle in three different food groups.
Each group was given a regular diet that varied over the course of five months with the aim of mimicking the different diets of cattle intended for meat production. While one group received no additives, the other two groups received a supplement of 0,25% (low) or 0,5% (high) of a red macroalgae (algae) called Asparagopsis taxiformis. The results of this study revealed a considerable reduction (69,8% for the low supplementation group, 80% for the high content) in methane, as well as a modest increase of 7 to 14% in the feed conversion index. (ICA).
The study in question (translated):

Re: recovery of methane from cows
So after the animal meal residues, they want them to eat algae!
Wouldn't the cows have their moOOOots to say?

At least it's vegetable and you have to add very small amounts to the forage.
