slers or not?

by Pascal HA PHAM » 20/05/10, 11:16

Hello Raymond,

super interesting life in the breeding of Salers!

the other day while walking next to Chapelle I saw a herd:

Image

Do you think this is Salers?
the dress does not look exactly the same shade of brown and ... why were the horns cut off for them?

Hi Pascal,

Cows are sometimes dehorning to avoid injury when they are concentrated (in trucks or at the lairage).

Otherwise, they are most likely heifers Limousines

It is also a meat breed, crosses are possible with the Salers : Idea:

With good poise, exceptional maternal qualities, and an interesting meat production and robustness.
Milk in moderate quantity, but very rich.

Good evening
absolutely agree, but one of my former colleagues (with 2 trades, the breeder in the evening with these parents) told me that he was forced to abandon this breed, because the females in heat, they destroyed the stable .....
once on vacation in Aurillac I looked at a mother and her little one, and I had as an answer blows
rather strong and well marked, (of the kind releases you is too much),
"unique and endearing you said" unique that's for sure, endearing ????
but I must admit that there is character in this breed.

Hi Micdhi and thank you for your message,

A mother with a young calf is never willing to let strangers get too close.

The character of the animals is very influenced by the selection and the attitude of the breeder.

By dint of choosing peaceful animals and not rushing them, we obtain gentle behaviors, whatever the breed.

Here is a first video http://elevage.salers.free.fr/photos_vi ... vrier_2010

and second calving video in EARL VINCENT PESCHER where everyone can enjoy the peace of mind of the calf and its mother.

Hello,
In addition, the Salers cow, if you want to milk it, its calf must be next to it, so that it believes that it is he who is suckling, otherwise you will not have milk Image
there is no meuhhh!
