I have always seen potatoes for consumption, kept in the dark (so as not to turn green), germinate "at a certain time"!
Okay, I don't know, I've never had to keep PDTs for more than a month. The market gardener also had a cold room, so he kept everything in there, so opaque AND cold (and mistakenly thought that it was the light that made them germinate?). Interesting anyway.
