VégA workshop for the development of biomass in France

Creation of a Prospective Reflection Workshop on the biomass of the future

Called "VégA", this workshop takes place in a global context dominated by three major challenges: the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, the development of substitutes for fossil hydrocarbons and the limited availability of renewable natural resources. He is also motivated by a desire to develop a bio-agro-industry and increase energy independence.

Set up as part of a call for projects initiated by ANR, this workshop, coordinated by INRA, in collaboration with CIRAD and IFP, aims to identify plant species, annual or perennial plants or micro -algae, and production systems that meet the demands of new energy and chemical sectors, while being compatible with sustainability objectives, taking into account all inputs and complete ecological assessments.

All forms of biomass recovery will be considered (biofuels, plant chemistry, direct combustion for energy production, biomaterials, etc.) within the framework of this workshop which brings together around twenty partners, including public research establishments, higher education establishments, technical centers, manufacturers, public actors and networks of associations covering a wide field of expertise.
