Three researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have applied for a patent for a system that would improve the consumption of gasoline engines by more than 20% at a cost of less than 1000 euros.
The MIT team had the idea of associating the use of a turbocharger with the injection of ethanol into the combustion chamber of the engine when the latter is very stressed (hill, acceleration, etc.).
The injection of ethanol decreases the risk of detonation which makes it possible to obtain high compression ratios in smaller engines.
