Buildings vacant for five years will be taxed

The National Assembly decided on Wednesday to subject buildings that have been vacant for five years across the country to the housing tax, and to increase this tax by 50% if "the period of vacancy is greater than ten years".

The deputies, who continued Wednesday the examination of the Borloo bill on housing, approved by a large majority an amendment by Yves Simon (app.UMP) providing for this device.
According to the author of the adopted amendment, "it is necessary to fight against the vacancy of buildings which penalizes the housing capacities and the resources of communities" by reintroducing the housing tax payable by the owner.
“The 50% increase is intended to avoid excessively long vacations which very often degrade the environment,” said Simon.
