British singer David Bowie will return to the cinema in the role of Serbian inventor Nikola Tesla for the film "The Prestige", alongside Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Michael Caine, announced Monday the daily Variety.

Bowie, whose last big movie role was pop-art pope Andy Warhol in "Basquiat" in 1996, will play Tesla, one of the pioneers of electricity, in this film about competition between two magicians realized by Christopher Nolan ("Batman Begins").

Rock icon since the early 1970 years, Bowie, 58 years, has made several forays into the cinema, including in "Furyo" Nagisa Oshima in 1982 and "The Last Temptation of Christ" Martin Scorsese in 1988.
