Drought expensive in Portugal

The damage caused by the drought that hit Portugal last year, considered to be the most serious in the past sixty years, amounts to nearly 286,2 million euros, according to a report presented on Tuesday by the ministry of the Economy.

The damage in the electricity production sector reaches 182 million euros, while in the agricultural sector it is estimated at 39 million.

The government has also introduced a program to combat and prevent the consequences of drought, including the construction of new dams and better management of water resources.
