Drought in the Amazon: Fire in Bolivia and few navigable Amazon in Peru

LIMA, Monday 19 September 2005

A gigantic fire, which has already destroyed between 80.000 and 100.000 hectares of forest, ravages the Bolivian Amazon. This is one of the consequences of a severe drought, which has been raging for several weeks and which, in Peru, has brought the Amazon River to its lowest level since at least 30 years, limiting its navigability.
