Ski season opens in the Dubai desert

DUBAI (AFP) - The ski season officially opened on Friday at Dubai's indoor ski resort in the emirate's desert.

The lower slopes have begun to welcome skiers while the higher ones are expected to open the 14 December, said station director Phil Taylor.

Surfers can also indulge in their favorite sport at this resort located in the gigantic Mall of the Emirates.

"I run to take a ski lesson before I return to a work meeting," said an Emirati citizen, who will have to trade in his traditional djellaba for warm ski suits before sliding down the slopes.

Surfer Johnny Yammine, who usually spends his free time riding motocross or climbing mountains, said he was "delighted with the good quality of the snow" ...

To add that it cools the swimming pools with air conditioners and that nobody sees a problem.
