If the 2006 prize list once again devotes the Toyota Prius hybrid to the “gasoline” category with a CO2 performance of 104 g / km, it nevertheless sees the arrival in second place of small gasoline city cars Citroën C1 1.0 i, Peugeot 107 1.0 e , Toyota AYGO 1.0 VVT-i, Daihatsu Cuore with an emission level of 109 gCO2 / km.

In the “Diesel” category, the prize goes to the Smart Fortwo which is ahead of the Citroën C2 (107 g / km). Of the 11 diesel models with the 10 best CO2 emissions, 6 are French.

1. CO2 emissions from vehicles sold in France fell by 1 gram in 2005 compared to 2004, reaching a value of 152 gCO2 / km. If the emissions of the diesel cars stagnate with 149 gCO2 / km, those of the petrol vehicles however have dropped by 3 grams (from 162 gCO2 / km in 2004 to 159 gCO2 / km in 2005).

2. 42% of vehicles sold in 2005 belonged to “green” classes A, B, C of the energy / CO2 label.

3. PSA has the best CO2 results in vehicle sales in France with an average of 145 gCO2 / km, followed by Renault with 146 gCO2 / km.

4. The average consumption of all diesel vehicles sold in France has fallen by 1 liter per 100 km in 10 years (2005 average: 5,6 l / 100 km) but has stabilized for 2 years. During this same period, the average consumption of gasoline vehicles decreased by 0,8 l (2005 average: 6,7 l / 100 km).

5. In the lower economic range (type Clio, Twingo, 107, 206), 92% of diesel vehicles sold are in green classes A, B, C. On the other hand only 40% of petrol cars fall into these categories.

6. Diesel vehicles continue to hold around 70% of the market share causing a worrying tension on refining in France.

7. Only 10% of Diesel vehicles sold in 2005 are equipped with standard particle filters. In classes B and C of low C02, the percentage is even lower with respectively 0,3% and 4,6%.

8. 2005 saw the appearance of small gasoline city cars with low CO2 emissions: 109 g / km for the Citroën C1 1.0 i, Peugeot 107 1.0 e, Toyota AYGO 1.0, Daihatsu Cuore. Gasoline vehicles now represent 10% of Class B energy label sales.

9. The year 2005 was marked by an increase in the sale of larger vehicles (minivan and 4 × 4) penalizing consumption. In particular, the market for minispaces (modus type or 1007) increased by 50% in 2005. It now represents 6,34% of sales compared to 4,15% in 2004).

10. The 4 × 4 market share increased in France by 0,6%. This increase is due to:

  • the market loss of 1,1% of the luxury premium class (example: a 4X4 BMW X5 is purchased instead of large sedans such as BMW 5 series, megane or Peugeot 307);
  • the loss of the lower middle class market where the smaller Toyota Rav 4 style 4x4s replace sedan type cars.
    According to an ADEME-FIFB survey, two-thirds of 4X4 owners use them daily for their traditional uses.
