Proposed green development in Britain

The municipality of Silfiac (Morbihan) will lay in June the first stone of its ecological subdivision, an originality adopted by several Breton municipalities which, to seduce and satisfy newcomers, seek to develop a new life project.

"Public lighting will be intelligent and will light up thanks to a presence detector, the lamps will be energy saving and will produce mood light", explains Serge Moëlo, the mayor of the town. “The road will be semi-porous to allow the absorption of 40% of the runoff water and 7.000 liter cisterns will be buried in each of the plots to ensure the recovery of rainwater, they will be used to supply the flushes. , chosen at two speeds for the economy ”. The mayor even wanted to take the experience further by leaving the mowing of the lawn bordering the future subdivision to "Ouessant sheep". Several Breton municipalities located mainly in the Rennes region and which were losing momentum have embarked on similar operations at the instigation of Ademe (Agency for development and energy management).

The town around Rennes plans to build 22 individual houses and 10 rental units on the ecological model. To avoid the trap of the “dormitory city”, these projects integrated common living spaces such as shared vegetable gardens and barbecue sites, but also road configurations favoring dead ends to avoid the flow of vehicle traffic. The ten Breton municipalities which have invested in "ecological subdivisions" also want these dwellings to remain offered at affordable prices, as in Langouet (Ille-et-Vilaine) which offers its first-time buyers loans at zero interest. The town hall of Silfiac thus declares to sell these houses with land for 100.000 euros, prices which remain affordable thanks to the financing of part of the operation by grants from local authorities and Ademe.
