On the occasion of the World Conference 16e Hydrogen Energy, which took place in Lyon from the 13 16 June, Renault exhibited progress in its research into fuel cells. The elements presented are illustrative of the way by Renault hydrogen material applied to the car: a vehicle fuel cell with reformer. The latter, which transforms the liquid fuel "reformate" a hydrogen-rich gas, works equally well with gasoline as diesel or ethanol.
The reformer produces hydrogen directly in the vehicle, and remove the high pressure storage problem. This solution, which has been working for Renault 2002 as part of the Alliance with Nissan and its partnership with Nuvera Fuel Cells, also eliminates the period of implementation of a hydrogen distribution network. It represents a realistic choice, failing to attempt to directly address the problem of emissions CO2.
