Bad news for the planet

Oil will disappear, make way for… coal!

Coal alone could satisfy the energy needs of the United States and for cheaper than oil, while crude prices are changing at record levels, according to a study of US researchers published this week.

"Coal alone could meet the country's energy needs in the 21st century," say Klaus Lackner and Jeffrey Sachs, researchers at the Earth Institute at the famous Columbia University in New York .

In these times of high energy prices, "more and more voices are being heard for the United States to develop new sources of energy, both inexpensive and located on national soil", write- they.

"In particular, the liquefaction of coal, which consists in making liquid fuels from coal, is a technique already used in the world", especially in South Africa, explain MM. Lackner and Sachs.
