Natural disasters have never cost insurers so much

According to the annual report on natural disasters published by the second reinsurer Swiss Re, all earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, etc. caused damage estimated at 123 billion dollars in 2004, of which 49 billion were paid for by insurance companies. This amount is an absolute record which exceeds that of 1992 (year marked by Hurricane Andrew).

Main disasters of the year: the Asian tsunami, thirteen hurricanes in the United States and ten typhoons on Japan.
