Floor insulation and floor coverings

Thermal transmission coefficients (lambda) of natural soils and common floor coverings (Linoleum, etc.)

This article is part of a general article on the heat transfer coefficients

Lambda given in W / mK

Natural soil:

  • Clay or silt 1.50

  • Homogeneous rock 3.50

  • Sand and gravel (all coming) 2.00

Flooring:

  • 0.17 rubber

  • Linoleum 0.17

  • Cork plate 0.065

  • 0.25 plastic

  • 0.10 foam rubber underlayment

  • 0.050 felt underlay

  • 0.060 wool underlay

  • 0.065 cork underlayment

  • Carpet / Textile Cover 0.060
