Vinegar softener?

by davio » 01/01/09, 21:20

This post is a question / reflection.

Vinegar (low amount of acetic acid) attacks lime scale.

This being perfectly healthy for health could it not be used as softeners to descale household appliances
and house plumbing. The net is full of good plans for the washing machine, dishwasher, coffee maker, taps ...

If an installation with a metering pump with an adjustment (1 to 2% perhaps) plays the role of softener, the simplicity of installation and the interest for health should convince us.

I look forward to your reactions.

Shouldn't we fear an acidification of watercourses in the case of widespread use?

Thank you for your intervention Greg.

I must tell you that indeed I had not thought of that.
Surely because I intend to adjust the dosatron type pump to 1 to 2%.
I am not sure that this is enough for limestone ... but to taste it will be imperceptible.

all the stake of the vinegar process seems to me to pose on the dosage which must have its effectiveness while being drinkable (I tend to kidney stones but I do not feel to drink spicy water. : Lol: )

To be clear, is vinegar perfectly healthy for transport in the pipes because of its bacteria (the mother)

What reactions with chlorine?

The chemical side is not my business ... :frown:

A good quality softener is worth a fortune; there are many brico discount but these softeners do they fully play their role for our health.

This is a very serious subject to dig into. We are all concerned.

It is an econological approach to look into it.

Bacteria and vinegar, in general, it is the bacteria that lose!

The acetic acid concentration is not high enough to react with chlorine.

The softener, to my knowledge, does not act on our health (at least not positively), but rather on that of the washing machine.
