fuel tank reuse of rainwater collector?

by Laurent 3 » 21/05/09, 14:13

Hello everybody
I just bought a house with an old 3000 L steel oil tank that has not been used for 25 years.
The owner has cleaned and filled it with water for several years.
I would like to use this tank to collect rainwater and supply the toilets, washing machines and water the garden.
I found on the net a company (afriso eurojauge) located in OSTWALD which places inside the tanks a flexible interior envelope.
This installation is guaranteed for 10 years by this company.

Does anyone know this business?
Does anyone have feedback from this system?

Hello Laurent

boubka is right you put 2 bottles of dish soap in it and you let the water circulate for a day and you rinse and check if there is still an odor if not you start again.

What price is this company asking? (supply + Labor + travel). Indeed, to be used in the washing machine, this water must be indisputably clean and odorless. :D

an old tank .... recycled for years with water .... is it tight ..... ???? Corrosion ends up making holes. : Cheesy: :?

First of all, it seems to me that an inspection of the tank will give an idea if it is worth betting on it.

oil tank / rainwater recycling

by marc91 » 21/05/09, 17:27

Hello

a steel tank will eventually break through, the system of double skins, offered by some companies (efficient but costly)
now it will take between 10 and 30 years!

for your washing machine and toilet, don't forget a 50 micron filtration and an obligatory DISCONNECTION! if supplied can also do by city water.

on the other hand, you are (in theory) obliged to declare that you collect rainwater at your town hall.

good luck : Mrgreen:

it will depend on the thickness of the tank but especially on the quality of the water. if acidic water then less duration (rainwater is often acidic)

there is a less expensive solution than double skin c is cathodic protection

Yep it's top cathodic protection, on the other hand you need an electrolyte that is going well ... and that may cost more (econologically) than buying a plastic tank right?

For me the best compromise (price / m3) is the "flexible tarpaulin type tanks" to put either in a small room or simply in the crawl space ...
