There is always the possibility of making the water intended for drinking water on arrival and not at the start of the installation: because finally a very small part of the water that is injected into the pipes of the house is intended to be drunk ...
many in the world do not have access to drinking water, and there are filtration solutions that are ultimately efficient, eg with ceramic and charcoal filters of this type: Berkey filters

I've had one for over a year, all the water we drink goes in and it's finally very uncomfortable (we're drinking tap water, it tastes bad) and we could not get used to it, not to mention the possible presence of pesticide residues as we are in a field crop area ... but it's a bit of pig jam because this system is designed to filter non-potable water initially). Some results of independent analyzes can be found on the net that seem to confirm the effectiveness of the system (also used by the army, NGOs, etc.).

it is the same filters (on another scale of course) that are used in industry and in some treatment plants ...
