Water recovery: Pump? Installation? Filter?

by cacahuete95 » 03/08/09, 17:17

Hello everybody

And a big thank you to the administrators of this forum that I find great.

Here, as you will understand, I am new here and what is more a woman : Cheesy:

Morality, I admit, I need help. 8)

I would like to install a rainwater collector, powered by the gutter from my garden shed.

From there, I would like to run a hose to go to the neighboring terrace (about 6 m) and have a small outdoor tap that will allow me to do the dishes (after a good barbecue) or possibly water 2/3 plants.

I would also need another outlet (higher I think) to evacuate any overflow.

So here are my questions:

- What should I put to feed my tap; I saw that there were pumps and boosters; I understood the difference but for my use, what do you recommend? And, does a booster immerse itself entirely in the tank or not?

- On the other hand, do I have to filter the water to keep it clean and if so how? Which device?

- Is there anything special to know or do for the overflow?

-Finally, if I forget something, I'm all ears ;-)

Thank you in advance for your answers.

: Cheesy: Olala ... peanut ... Not easy to answer, without seeing exactly what it is ... you do not have a nice neighbor?
Because given your questions, you have to explain a lot, a lot :D

I see...

Has anyone (E) understood my questions better?

To the point of having the kindness (and kindness) to "explain many, many things to me" since it seemed to me that this was the vocation of this place.

But, maybe I have the wrong address?

Actually no! Image

Well, I'm kidding, what exactly do you want to do?

A recovery for the garden or for the dishes? Because it's not (at all) the same type of installation ...

I would even be of the opinion, to make 2 separate ...

Hi Christophe,

Well actually, I didn't know it was not the same garden and dishes, why?

Me, in my idea, I wanted to put a tap on my terrace, with a sink, to serve a little bit at all but, in the end, with little annual consumption, like 4-5 barbecues in summer what, a little dishes, a little cleaning of the terrace and possibly, I thought if there is too much water precisely serve for the garden or other?

Why should the installation be different? Me, I thought to connect (qd I would need it) the garden hose precisely on the famous tap.

I don't understand, could you develop?

Well for the garden, the bacterial development is not important, on the contrary even sometimes it can bring fertilizers ... In fact there is no interest in filtering rainwater for watering the garden (except removing the big end like leaves).

By cons do dishes with water full of algae or mosquito larvae ... it's not great.

Do you know a little bit about larvae I think? : Cheesy:

In addition, the quantities are not at all the same: you will probably need 10 times less washing up water!

Ah ah ah ah ah : Cheesy: Yes the larvae, that knows me lol

Okay then, I will prefer to leave on a dishwater, ok.

Now, there will be:
- the gutter,
- who goes to the recuperator
- Who (this is the first question) contains a pump?
OR is connected to a booster? and all with a filter extra?
- and from the recuperator (or from the booster) a pipe to bring the water to the wall tap (about 6 meters linear + 1m / 1m in height)

What do you think, pump or booster?

You already need a big "prefilter" before the tank ... generally it is supplied with the tanks ... otherwise you put a big strainer ...

For the pump or supressor it is kif kif it depends what you want, a supressor is just "more automatic" and it is controlled by a simple tap. To do the dishes just for a few bbqs a year, I think a small pump will suffice ...

In addition, a suppressor also costs more and is more sensitive to frost ...

Now I say it again: washing dishes with stagnant rainwater is not necessarily a good idea ...

Up to you...

Ok Chris, for the blower or pump.

However, it annoys me all this :frown:

How do they make those who, for example, supply their house with well or river water?

They are good with dishes, right?

I even saw some who plugged into the washing machine and dishwasher?

So why would it be different there?

By what in fact, it becomes a real galley plan there my story : Shock:

Let me explain :

- I have just built a 100% wooden shed for storing tools and various items on a small flagstone terrace
- Next to it there will be another terrace for dining
- Suddenly, since the water will fall on the roof of the shed and, to avoid being flooded, I will put gutters
- So, I said to myself then, so that the water from the gutters does not flood me this time either the slabs, or always the same place on the ground, should put the water somewhere
- Then, suddenly >>> recuperator idea
- And >>> idea recovery >>> create a water point on the terrace

Because otherwise the recuperator is always the same, it will eventually overflow

Anyway, I'm bogus because it's a story of water going around in circles lol : Cheesy:

But I imagined it a bit like a "normal" water point with which we can do everything, hence my allusion to those who feed on river water etc ...

It must be possible, right? Even putting more expensive equipment?

I know, it sounds stupid but I specify that my terrace is more than 25 meters from a "real" water point.

Suddenly, I thought that this system could be pretty cool and save me money: terrace washing, PRE-washing dishes, sponge on the table, watering lawn (which is dying :D ), cleaning the Barbec ...

All the ideas interest me to optimize my project ;-)

Thanks Chris :P
