CO2 storage of coal at source

by izentrop » 06/11/21, 10:43

It wouldn't be bad if it was easy ...

Only, we are still at the experimental stage, why? 2014
an additional manufacturing cost for the power plants, sometimes very significant initial additional costs (40% on average according to IFP EN). This cost is passed on to the energy produced;
an additional operating cost: the CO2 capture step is costly in terms of energy. We are talking about an energy penalty. For a power plant, this energy penalty can represent more than 25% of the energy produced.
The cost of the process is currently around 50 to 100 € / t CO2 (60 euros per tonne on average according to the IPCC, of which 85% for capture alone) (1). This cost should be compared with the low price per tonne of CO2 on international carbon markets. Improved processes could reduce these costs.

Storage at source is made essential by the IPCC, but the economy and our habits addicted to fossil fuels :?: :?:

50 € / T is always 10 times less "expensive" than the ORCA project: co2-climate-change / geoengineering-cooling-the-earth-against-warming-t2770-190.html # p471672

But to count correctly you have to take into account the price of the planet's climate stability?

This is why the climate will not come out of it in the current system with short-term (shitty) capitalist mentalities!

And when I say short term it is over decades and therefore it is already inconceivable for most of the current policies ... to save the climate we have to think about even longer term than decades!

We have amortized many mega civil engineering projects over several decades (the Millau Viaduct I believe will be paid for in 2070 ...)

Saving the climate will have to be capitalistically amortized over several centuries ! But the ideal would be that we do not count this cost ...

To count correctly, we should above all refrain from counting and start to think that if we managed to escape from the only climatic consequence, it would be to better reinforce what goes against the conditions of life on Earth... : roll:

Ask Ahmed ... we obviously have the same idea ...

Imagine an exterminating asteroid heading towards Earth and that the impact would be in 11 years and that we would have the possibility of avoiding the collision at 96,7% chance with a megastructure that would require the work of 1/10 of humanity for 10 years ...

Do you think we'd be talking about COST in this case and beating around the bush to make a quick and clear decision?

Well with the warming it's almost the same thing except that the deadline is a little less close (although ...)

Beyond the fact that you should watch a little less sci-fi movies, the comparison is not worth it. Nothing to do between the two types of events.

except that it is not at all the same thing because nobody speaks about the disappearance of the humanity because of the RC, which would represent an "infinite" cost, not even the climatologists ... : roll:

https://www.axios.com/climate-change-sc ... 6938d.html

doomsday predictions are delusional and counterproductive, reducing everything to an imaginary disaster due to CR, they distract from real issues like deforestation, pollution, etc ...

an example of a rebellion extinction representative floundering to justify fanciful claims of her movement in front of a pugnacious journalist

Patience!

What if what we are in the process of initiating could transform the terrestrial atmosphere into an atmosphere completely unlivable for humans (and N numbers of species ...) like, 70 to 80 ° C in summer?

There are calculations there, aren't they?

If 100% of the permafrost melts? If 100% of the methane hydrates are released ... How many + ° C?

Ah yes but it would not be our fault, it is natural sources ... pov types!
