BEIJING, Feb.27 (Xinhua) - China leads the world in new offshore wind installations for the third year in a row with more than three gigawatts of new offshore capacity installed in 2020, according to the World Wind Energy Council.
"Even though China was the first to be hit by the COVID-19 crisis, the impact on the offshore wind energy sector has been minimal, resuming 'normal operations' as early as March 2020," Feng said. Zhao, head of intelligence and market strategy at the board.
China's record growth is expected to continue in 2021, driven by the rush of offshore wind installations, he said.
While the UK continues to rank first in the world for total offshore wind power capacity, China has overtaken Germany to become the world's second largest market for offshore wind turbines, the council noted.
