Manaus (Brazil) - Covid strain E484K - Are we really being told the truth?

by ENERC » 19/01/21, 21:27

I don't understand the situation in Manaus (North of Brazil):

- in the fall of 2020 (spring for us) they had a severe wave
- according to serological tests 60 to 70% of the population had Covid in early 2020

More:
- the images show us the extension of cemeteries in the Amazon rainforest,
- we see a huge number of recent graves
- people are rushing for oxygen cylinders
- we see an apocaliptic situation in the city
- and officially only one case of re-contamination by the Brazilian Covid 19 variant (the E484K)
- and even Bolsonaro says it's serious

There is something wrong:
- either the antigenic tests are bogus (but that contradicts the facts in early 2020)
- either we catch the Covid again with the Brazilian variant, but we don't want to panic
- either the media tell us salads to prepare us for a new confinement

I don't know what you think of this story, but it stinks bad. If anyone has a rational explanation, I'm a taker :D

Your link is interesting, more details here https://www.lemonde.fr/blog/realitesbio ... -variants/
In October 2020, the state of Amazonas had been hit hard by the Covid-19 epidemic. Published in the journal Science, a recent study indicated that more than three-quarters (76%) of the inhabitants of Manaus, the largest city in the Amazon region, had antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. It was in this state that a new variant, called P.1, was discovered in December 2020. However, Manaus has seen a rapid increase in cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection and hospitalizations. in mid-December 2020.

This new variant was detected by RT-PCR tests in 13 out of 31 samples collected between December 15 and 23, 2020. It was however absent in 26 biological samples collected between March and November 2020 and sequenced ....
This new Brazilian variant contains in particular the mutations E484K, K417T and N501Y ...

The E484K mutation could be associated with immune escape, namely a reduced capacity for neutralization by antibodies during natural infection or that induced by vaccination. It has in fact been observed in viral isolates escaping the neutralizing activity of the serum of convalescent Covid-19 patients. In some cases, the neutralizing power of antibodies was reduced by more than ten times. In this connection, it may be noted that a virus carrying the E484K mutation was recently identified in Brazil in two cases of reinfection in patients who had already presented an infection with a virus of another lineage (B.1.1.33).

According to another Brazilian team, Japanese patients returning from the Amazon region may have been infected with a virus belonging to a lineage that has circulated in the state of Amazonas since April 2020 and in which a new variant has recently emerged. Indeed, these researchers point out that the Amazonian lineages B.1.1.28 evolved at a constant rate between April and November 2020 and that none of the sequences had so far presented an abnormally high number of mutations in the spike protein or in other regions of the viral genome ...
All these changes were to be expected, since this country does not apply barrier gestures and the risks of zoonosis with wildlife are greater than elsewhere.
