Experience the electric car

by Woodcutter » 25/01/06, 20:20

Seen on this site: http://www.pile-au-methanol.com/Vehicul ... r-tous.htm

a very detailed (and very long to read ...) account of the daily use of an electric car, since its purchase in May 2005 until now, and a comparison with a hybrid.

Very informative ! :P

Electric cars.

by Byr » 25/01/06, 20:46

I may have read it incorrectly, but I have not seen anything relating to the cost of battery maintenance and renewal? however, a few years ago, the only rental of the batteries, for a 106 elect amounted, if I remember correctly, to more than 70 € per month ... (Ditto for the rental of the gas cptr of the C3 GNV which amounts to € 35 / month) which can appear as a deterrent.

Apparently, the batteries are purchased with the vehicle and are expected to last 100 km (or 000 charge / discharge cycles).

Regarding the maintenance, he talks about it in the comparison with the Prius: http://www.pile-au-methanol.com/Test-Hybride-2.htm ; but there is actually no notion of cost of replacing the battery pack.

Hello
Actually I don't really see the cost of the batteries and this is the most expensive ...
However, the Chinese are now posting Li-Ion battery prices at $ 0,16 / Wh (same as for lead-acid batteries). It seems that they have taken the lead in mastering these batteries (?!). I am studying with a friend the opportunity to modify a 106, a 20KWh battery should therefore cost around 1600 €. There remains the problem of the number of cycles in theory 1000 against 1500 to 2200 for the very expensive CadNickel, and of the power available instantaneously (less good for the Li-Ion) etc ... It would also require super-capacitors.
With electricity it is not energy that is expensive it is the tank (the batteries)!

Or is it just a very cheap labor effect? :|

I am far from mastering everything in electricity, but suddenly you would have a battery of higher capacity than that of kangoo ER of this man? (Theoretical 13,2 KWh)

An article about a NewBeetle with super-capacitors: http://www.moteurnature.com/actu/2005/v ... ybride.php (but maybe you already know it?)

No I had not seen it yet, thanks for the link. Supercapacitors are a bit between normal condos and batteries. The advantage is that they can provide a large instantaneous booster power and the batteries, on the other hand, energy for a certain time. What is interesting is that Li-Ion batteries are precisely not too good for their lifespan and their autonomy to provide a lot of current (power) instantaneously. The CadNi they have a good capacity to supply an important current but they are handicapped by their memory effect (from where the rental maintenance contracts to reform them) and their price (it was almost the price of the new car at the beginning of the 106 elec).
20KWh sorry I was wrong it is 12 KWh it is the original energy of the 106 for 80km (battery of 20 blocks of 6V and 100Ah if I am not mistaken).

The user of the Kangoo ER also talks about NiMh battery, it seems to me. I understand that they have no memory effect and carry a greater energy capacity per unit of weight, but what is their behavior on discharge?

From what I read about supercapacitors, they are similar to electrochemical capacitors. They support fast charges and discharges like deep discharges. They would also have a higher charge / discharge cycle number than batteries. It also seems to me (I will look for the link on the supercapacitors site) that the daily loss discharge is of the order of a few%.

By cons I do not know what is the weight / energy ratio of these vis-à-vis other types of batteries.

These supercapacitors could be good candidates for making an electric car.

Regarding the Kangoo ER's range extender, the pantone would be optimal on an engine with this role: the speed is optimized to have the best performance and to charge the batteries.

I had information on these points from the author of the story.

Here's what he says:
this consumes 0,3 liters per 100 km of distilled water at 6,45 Euros TTC per 5 liters (cost of the material sold by Renault).
I plan to refuel myself by gravity after the first year (it's easy to do).
[...]
At Renault the battery belongs to you, it's not like the scam that killed the EV by renting the battery from Peugeot Citroën

By cons, no info on the cost of batteries, manufactured by SAFT.
