What characteristics are important for a charge controller

by zed » 21/11/20, 11:00

Bonjour.
I am a beginner and I wonder what justifies the very large price differences between the different models of regulator?

I see for example the STECA PR2020 to 110 balls and the noname with 8 balls. They are both 20A and accept 12 or 24V. The cheapest even has USB outputs that the other does not have.

At this level, there is necessarily something that must escape me, right? What is the characteristic that sets them apart?

Technically none but you compare a promo price (8 € 08 36,75 €) at a high price ...
Otherwise you pay the VS noname brand ... there is much worse in clothing! : Cheesy:

And beware of Cdicount prices, they are often misleading because they are low on the public catalog and "adjusted" with prohibitive shipping costs ...

In this specific case, it will represent only 50% more: : Mrgreen:

Total to pay
€ 8,08 Items
4,00 € Shipping

4 € from China it's okay ... : Cheesy:

Last but not least, you compare a "Chinese" price to a Europe price ... on the noname one we have:

Usually delivered in 3 to 5 weeks, either to your home between Fri 11/12 and Tue 22/12

And the other comes from Andore ... delivered by 25/11 ...

Yeah, even if it means buying a Chinese stew, you might as well buy it directly rather than leaving a margin for these scam artists.
But hey, something less than 10 € should not be expected to work ... for a long time!
That said, the Chinese don't just shit *, far from it, so if you're willing to pay a little more, you'll also get something potentially a lot more reliable.

* If you ask them shit, they sell you shit ... that's trade.

Hello,
Every 2 pwm, adjustable with display.
The Steca is German made https://www.solaris-store.com/telecharg ... 020340.pdf
The Chinese model seems to have a multitude of different manufacturers.
Without brand, beware, we find the same with a mark and many evaluations

The charging current does not seem adjustable?
It is better not to exceed c / 10 if you want a good battery life. So a Chinese 20A will not be worth a German 20A?

Hello again,
Phil59, as with fessebouc links, you have to remove everything behind the question mark in the URL of the link. Everyone will know your interests? : Twisted:
The shortened link https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/32818868189.html

In this regard, a commentator photographed the record.
It has a charge and discharge counter that can be reset to zero, a limitation on the discharge current.

Indeed, the charging current is fixed, make a rule of three to adapt the charger to the panels and batteries.

Thank you for these responses.
In short, the difference between the two is not technical. This is the usual difference between something made by Chinese quasi-slaves or by European employees.

More practical question: the 20A indication corresponds to what? Some are given for a precise value while others (like that of the link of Phil59) are given for a range of values of the kind 10 to 60A.

Take a good look at phil59's link page, there is one model per charge current.
You must therefore first know what is the power and energy you need before buying Battery, PV and lastly the charger according to the required charging current and not the other way around https://www.solaire-diffusion.eu/photov ... 150%20Watt.

I spoke about C / 10, it is recommended not to exceed c / 5 and it also depends on the temperature https://www.victronenergy.fr/upload/doc ... 02-Bis.pdf
