Hello,

What is your opinion on this solution for storing photovoltaic energy?

Thank you in advance for your reply !

My opinion is that for the moment, this is not a solution: it is just at the "laboratory experiment" level.

It is necessary to wait for the continuation of the experiment, the manufacture of prototypes and, if one reaches this point, the industrialization to know if this type of battery can be competitive and constitute a solution of storage.
Given the past in the field of batteries, we should be fixed in about ten years.

In addition, the article only talks about the electrolyte, but the cost of batteries remains largely related to the electrodes ... which we know nothing for the moment.

Hello,

I am looking for a chemical engineer who could help me create a saltwater battery model.
I am an electrical engineer and I take care of all the electrical measurements allowing to advance this model.

All your suggestions about this project will be welcome.

Ultimately, the objective would be to build 48V stationary batteries for inter-seasonal storage of photovoltaic solar energy.

The idea would be to set up a working group on this theme.

Is anyone using them, and if so, how do you like them / how do they compare to flooded lead acid in terms of general behavior / maintenance requirements / etc? Are you happy with them?

what is the expected energy density and what is needed for the material?

As it is stationary storage, the energy density does not matter to me, and then if it is necessary to make sacrifices on one of the criteria it is well there that I would sacrifice first.

As for materials, it is something else, it seems that the first devices on sale are strongly protected by patents.

In static even if the pile takes a volume of 1 m3 it is necessary that the material to build it is abundant and easy to obtain.
To use it in the home which would be a very good thing it is necessary that its cost be low at least well below the bar of 50 euros per Kwh stored for a period of the order of 6 months. At least 50 Kwh of storage is also expected.
If these parameters are respected then I want to be part of the adventure.
