Metal chest

by Marieboubou » 25/02/21, 20:52

Hello,

I'm looking to build a wooden chest and then make a metal one.
I don't know where the metal comes from ecologically, is it something that pollutes a lot during metal fabrication?

I don't know if this question makes sense,

We look forward to seeing you!

Currently, the steel industry is largely based on coal: when it comes to iron ore, it is used extensively for its reduction. A part also comes from the recycling of scrap (one of the rare relatively well recycled waste) and then consumes a lot of electricity ... The pollution mainly concerns the emission of harmful gases.
If you want to make a metal chest, that requires quite a bit of material and skill, depending on what you are planning, obviously ...

What is your plan, roughly? How do you plan to go about it, if you prefer ...

Buying a coal forge, making your own steel from the ore, enriching it with carbon, rolling it, bending it, welding it ... What a pleasure and then it requires "almost nothing" in terms of tools and know-how. .. : Cheesy:

I know you're kidding Guy, but metallurgy is one of the rare activities which makes it possible to manufacture the tools necessary for its exercise (I am speaking of course at the level of its primitive technology).

It is true and it is even one of the reasons which made so many deaths during "the acorn leap forward" of Mao ... :(

a shortcut taken backwards, the steel is not "enriched" in carbon, but depleted, from the cast iron which contains much more.
