Where to find small magnets or how to magnetize parts?

by Christophe » 30/12/20, 14:24

I would need 3 small round magnets 8-10mm in diameter. powerful enough to hold a removable part that is light enough but subject to movement: a bicycle helmet visor ...

I could buy them but I'm in a hurry and the lots are often dozens for this size ... therefore unnecessary!

Do you have any idea where I could collect this kind of magnets from me? Square magnets would also be fine ... since I intend to stick them on the helmet.

I tried fridge magnets (flexible magnetic strip) but they are not magnetic enough ... :?

Alternative: I have 4 fairly powerful neodymium magnets (but too big for what I want to do with them) but I cannot magnetize a metal part with ... I tried with zinc-plated washers and after several hours , there is no magnetization ...

My magnetism lessons are distant ... any advice?

Thank you

If you have an old hard drive, it's in there. Very powerful.

Usually, you have 2 per hard drive, on older ones, not SSDs of course.

Very powerful magnet. But still quite big ...

Otherwise powerful but smaller ... In the boxes of construction games with magnetic balls and rods ... At emaus it is ...

If you have an old Senseo-style espresso maker, in the tank float, you have a small but "powerful" neodymium magnet. There are now also in led flashlights.
Your zinc-plated steel washers will not retain magnetization for long.
