Dark Water, or how industrialists poison us with water

by GuyGadebois » 02/03/20, 13:47

Teflon scandals

At the beginning of the 1980s, the Dupont company bought an area of 66 hectares near Parkersburg which was transformed into a waste depot for one of their factories in the region, called Washington Works. As soon as the development of the area was finished, DuPont began to release PFOA, a toxic substance used in the production of Teflon, into the Ohio River. The PFOA also began to contaminate the region's drinking water supply through "digestion wells", ditches where the substance was stored, deepened as the amount of waste increased. In 1990, more than 7 tonnes of PFOA were released into the water.

A local farmer, Wilbur Tenant, noted that the health of his cows had deteriorated dramatically since the depot was installed near his farm8.

Friend of the landlord of a nearby farm, lawyer Rob Billot decided to launch a federal lawsuit against DuPont on behalf of Tenant, after the farmer contacted him asking for his help. Thanks to a letter from Dupont to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mentioning the presence of PFOA in the Parkersburg depot, he obtained an order forcing DuPont to give him access to all of their documents concerning the molecule. It was in these documents that Billot discovered that DuPont had secretly researched the harmful properties of PFOA for forty years without ever publishing them, and had continued to knowingly release this substance into the environment. During this research, the company had notably discovered the carcinogenic properties of PFOA, the dangerously high concentrations in the surrounding environment and in the blood of their workers, and even a less toxic alternative to PFOA which they had decided not to use for fear of reducing their profits, the production of materials containing Teflon earning them a billion dollars per year at that time.

In 2001, Billot launched legal action against DuPont, making the case public. He accused the company of having infected more than 70 people in six different districts. In 000, DuPont had to settle the appeal: a total of $ 2004 million was paid to the various affected districts, and the company committed to installing water filtration facilities in the six affected districts. An investigation into the blood contamination of local residents, funded by DuPont, was also conducted. In 70, the study including nearly 2011 blood samples was successful: IARC established PFOA as a group 70B000 carcinogen ("potentially carcinogenic to humans").

Prior to this trial, no legal limit for concentration in water was established in the United States. Since then, a limit of 0,07 parts per billion has been set.

The magnificent and chilling film Dark Water deals with this scandal and denounces the cynicism, the lies and the means used by these enormous firms to drown the fish, lie, drag out the trials in order to discourage the plaintiffs.
Monsanto-Bayer and all the other firms are doing the same, trying to stifle scandals, corrupting individuals, so-called official organizations and certain scientists. The glyphosate case (to speak only of him) is far from over and we can hope one day that the truth will finally come out. We can always dream!

if only there was! Some analysts believe that the deterioration of the health of the Romans was linked to kitchen utensils and especially plates decorated with lead ingredients, the toxicity of which we currently know, in contact with plant acids.

Ok, but stop consuming these plants at the same time https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acide_caf ... es_plantes, because they also contain a carcinogenic substance 2B : Twisted:

But what is the relationship between a company that has killed several thousand people (which continues to do so, by the way) and plants? Definitely my poor Izy, you're in distress ...

So you deny the problem of PFOA and Teflon?

Made for several years ... I put the aluminum utensils with it!

Because combining the 2 (often still the case) this must be quite a level of toxicity ... and we are surprised that some cancers explode in the statistics!

We talked about it not too long ago here: health-pollution-prevention / l-poisoning-by-the-aluminum-t12287-70.html # p370982
