What quality criteria for pellets?

by Phil532140 » 07/01/19, 20:11

Hello everyone.
It's all in the title: What do you think are the most important criteria for choosing "good" pellets? How much do you pay them?
Thank you for your feedback.
Phil.

1) 100% resinous are more energetic.
2) A certification gives a little more guarantees (Din +, EN / A1 or EN + ...); they both refer to a European standard: EN 14961-2
3) Moisture is easily verifiable (microwave test) if you have a precise balance
4) The resistance in water gives an indication of the "content"
5) The rate of "fines" sawdust is absolutely essential; if there is too much, it can "settle" and block screws !!!
[Empty the silo every 2 years; otherwise, it accumulates in the background, starting at once like a snow patch in the mountains; I blocked my screw like that half a dozen years ago! ]

I paid 225 € per ton delivered (for 8 and a few tons), in bulk. I buy in the dead season - it's the month of May (do not wait for summer!).

Thank you Did67 for this return.
I take note of your advice.
For now I feed in bags. In Mayenne it is 290 € 975 kg (65 bags). I'm thinking about a silo.

In some sparsely wooded / little "pelletized" regions, bulk can be more expensive !!! Little competition (sometimes a single delivery man around), no local production ... So check before! I am one of the privileged: a large sawmill 7 km away, with a pelletizing unit and on the other side, in the Black Forest, also long-standing factories ... So competition!

The bagged pellet is a product of appeal to a lot of DIY stores, even garden centers ...
