New: The motor or round ball

by abyssin3 » 12/09/07, 16:58

This type of engine will interest the curious of mechanics:
http://www.20min.ch/ro/news/economie/story/20686424
http://kugelmotor.peraves.ch/

It has an aftertaste of a rotary engine in the sense that the rotation allows the compression of the gases to be burned, but it is still more complex. The animation (1st link) explains the operating principle well.
I have not yet found info on consumption and performance. If anyone has other info, they are welcome.

"Half less expensive than a piston engine and twice as reliable"

Seeing the animation is not really my feeling ... and for the performance the curves on their site are illegible :(

Yeah, with these curves we turn in round...

Bonjour à tous

Not sure if you understood everything with this animation. : Cry:

The intake is a bit like a 2-stroke with suction on the rotary distributor side on the hub. Then there is transfer of gases on the periphery of the ball to arrive in the expanding 'chamber' for the admission time.

There are these oscillating "flaps", at what engine speed can this turn? The inertia must not be negligible .... efficiency ???
What is the volumetric ratio of this machine?
How are the seals and lubrication done between the oscillating moving parts?

The combustion "chamber" moves a bit like Wankel and is far from the hemispherical shape. Two candles like on the Wankels to light a mixture which moves quickly under them.

Saint Thomas he said: "First you pass this to me on the bench and then we discuss" : Mrgreen:

Hello

With the ease of machining we can now allow ourselves to make many shapes that seems original and functional.
the only point that bothers me is the tightness of the segments, as well as the lubrication, probably as a two-stroke
also the evacuation of calories on the ball
A piston can be sprinkled with oil from below or, as in the two stages, cooled by the intake air.
when the power increases in a small engine you have to be able to dissipate the waste heat.

Bonjour à tous

For the principle of "flaps" which oscillate on themselves it looks like the Kawertz engine (spelling ???). I haven't been able to find it on the internet. : Cry:

I saw this 20 years ago and this engine shone with the cylindrical irregularity of its torque. The author intended its application to lawn mowers for example.
