I leave it to the specialists to give us their opinion on this invention ....

The winner of the XPrize competition has developed a technology that recovers ambient air to provide 2000 liters of drinking water per day.

to design an apparatus capable of extracting 2000 liters of water per day from the atmosphere, using clean energy, without exceeding a cost of 2 cents per liter.
With the proposed gas plant, it's bullshit, as much for the 2000 l as the 2 Centimes. : Shock: : Mrgreen:

If I understand correctly, we collect water from the air by condensation on the condenser of a heat pump.
For that you have to consume a lot of electricity and need air loaded with water and a phenomenal condenser surface.
In the middle of the desert, it's not won. : Mrgreen:

And to improve the carbon footprint, we go through an anaerobic digestion to reduce the bill :?: :?:
Another solution is using solar panels to power the compressor.

Yeah good! for lack of better, they had to keep the only team that wanted to compete : Mrgreen:

It is a system that is used in industry to get dry air: the goal is different, but the principle is the same. Except that the cost is lower in this desiccation application, since the amount of water to be removed remains modest, while in what is presented to us, it is desired to obtain a large amount. I completely agree with the opinion ofIzentrop.

I sign too! It's just a machine to waste energy. NB: it is sufficient to evaluate the quantities of water discharged in Africa by climates. This is not negligible, where it always rains and where the air is saturated (type Abidjan!). Elsewhere, before filling a bucket it evaporated (Namibia, I had a house with two clims).

[And indeed, this box would be an excellent box to dehydrate herbs at low temperature, keeping a maximum of perfumes and essences - volatile! Two years ago, I think, I had explained the principle to a young person who wanted to settle and sell dried aromatic herbs]

What amazes me in these things that do not work is to see how far the industrialization (even if inside these boxes there may be only ... empty) can develop

it can work, but we must see the amount of energy consumed by the condenser and the ozoneur, and also the water yield ... on a very dry air input, it must frankly not be terrible ...

good if not to turn the condenser, PV panels can suffice, the sun is not lacking in Africa. It's rather too dry air that leaves me skeptical.

Note: Ozonation and carbon filtration are typical steps in drinking water production

2000 is perhaps a maxi ... but in everyday life in some places we can settle for a lot less no?

The estimate of the required consumption must be reported to the population concerned, so it is impossible to decide a priori. Doing the assumption of correct operationbecause of the investment and the running costs, it would take a good volume of production so that it stops being a dubious joke: in the state, it is more a gas factory than a water factory ! : Wink:

Good evening, it reminds me a little about it water-pumping-filtration / eolienne qui recovered-the-water-from-a-l-air-t8535.html

but here are simpler solutions that were used in antiquity water-pumping-filtration / de-fog sensor-trap-a-water-drinking-de-dew-t9756.html
